I graduated from Stanford Law School in 1998, worked at Sullivan & Cromwell in New York for four years after graduation, and then, thanks to my Berkeley classmate Matthew Zapruder’s father, landed a dreamy job here at the Washington office of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, where I am now the Deputy General Counsel. I get to work in interesting media-related areas of the law and, since our headquarters is in Prague, I get to travel to my favorite city about once a year. Having lots of Czech and Russian colleagues (as well as occasional legal disputes in those countries) allows me to keep my language skills somewhat fresh, though my vocab is a complete disaster. When Vaclav Havel died, I published an article on the RFE/RL website using a translation that I’d done back in my Berkeley days but never used:
